More about Whale Bay (Raglan) surfspot

Despite having a reputation as being the lesser of Raglans three left points, Whale Bay can still pack a punch at smaller sizes when it breaks close to the rocks and sections on the headland to the east of the bay. On larger days the wall loses steepness and rolls along, unless the swell is more W-NW making it barrel over the boulders.

In Raglan you will enter on Main Road, which then turns into Bow Street. Continue to the first roundabout and turn left onto Bankart Street, then turn left at the next roundabout onto Wainui Road. Continue on Wainui Road past the Manu Bay Reserve, then turn right onto Calvert Road, then turn right onto Tohora Close. Find a park around here, it can be very busy in summer. There is a walk way at the end of Tohora Close that will take you past the houses and down to the beach.

Often slightly less crowded than the other two points with less locals, giving the intermediates a chance. Some rocks can pop up suddenly and the jump off spot is tricky - beware.
