Raglan Bar is a popular surf spot located at the southern side of the Harbour in Raglan. It features a set of changeable sandbanks that create some dynamic surfing conditions. This spot can be enticing for surfers looking to catch a wave, especially given its relatively quiet surf crowd on most days.
The surf at Raglan Bar is mainly good for intermediate surfers. You can expect left and right breaking waves with the best conditions when the swell comes from the southwest or northwest. The ideal swell sizes are around 2ft (0.6m), and the breaks are over sand. Low to mid tide is preferable for optimal surfing. Keep in mind that sometimes the waves can be fast and hollow, which may require some skill to navigate effectively.
Also, be aware that the currents can get a bit tricky, especially on windy days when you'll often see kiteboarders sharing the water. So, if you’re planning a surf session here, it might be a good idea to stay alert and watch the conditions as they can change quickly.
