Whistling Sands / Porth Oer surf guide

Whistling Sands, also known as Porth Oer, is a nice little surf spot located on the North Coast of Wales. It's famous for its beautiful sandy beach and stunning surroundings. With plenty of space, this spot can accommodate a good number of surfers, so it tends to feel open and friendly. The access is easy, as you can park right by the beach, making it simple to grab your gear and hit the waves.

This beachbreak generally performs best at high tide, especially when Hells Mouth is too big and blown-out. Whistling Sands likes swell from the SouthWest but can handle some NorthWest swells too. It works well with swell sizes starting from around 2 feet (0.6 meters) and can be pretty fun with left and right-breaking waves. If you're looking for a good time in the water, catching the right conditions with a SouthEast wind will give you the best chance for decent rides.

Keep in mind that, while it can get lively with the right swell conditions, you should be cautious of strong rips and rocks in the area. It’s a good idea to have a sense of the local conditions before heading out. Enjoy your time at Whistling Sands and make the most of the surf there!
