Whitburn is a surf spot located in an MOD firing range area. Accessing it can be a bit tricky due to the long walk involved and the restricted nature of the location. You can find parking options to the north and south of the ranges, but plan for a bit of a trek to get to the water.
This spot features three left reefs that can produce decent waves, mainly working best with a northeast swell direction and can also handle swells coming from the north and southeast. Expect the waves to break over rock ledges, which adds to the challenge. Ideal wave heights are around 3 ft (about 0.9 meters) but can vary. The best times to surf here are during mid to high tide, and you'll want a west wind for smoother conditions.
Keep in mind that while Whitburn can offer some good surf days, it may not always be consistent, and the access issues can make it a commitment. Make sure you check the tides and swells before heading out, and be prepared for a bit of a hike to reach the surf.
