A St. surf guide

A St. is located south of the St. Augustine pier, about 16 blocks down from 16th Street. It can get pretty crowded, especially when the surf is on, but generally, it maintains a low-key vibe. You can park for free at the end of A Street, making it easy to access the beach without hassle.

The surf here is decent on small days, typically ranging from 1 to 3 feet (0.3 to 0.9 meters), and it can handle swells up to 10 feet (3 meters) during bigger days. A St. breaks well on both lefts and rights, primarily over sand. It works best with swells coming from the North to Southeast, particularly Northeast and East swells. Tides are relaxed here, functioning well at all tidal heights, but you might find it best to ride at mid to high tide. For beginners, intermediates, and experts alike, this spot offers fun rides on shortboards, funboards, longboards, and fish boards. Paddling can be chill most days, though it may require more effort when the surf picks up.

Keep in mind that while the wave is generally friendly, it can change with the shifting sands, so the quality varies over time. The crowd size can fluctuate, and even though it's mostly manageable, you should be prepared for busier days during prime surf seasons, especially in the fall and spring when conditions are typically best.
