Apocalypse is a challenging surf spot located deep in the bay, known for its gnarly waves. The name says it all, with a rough and demanding surf that’s not for the faint-hearted. The area has better coral coverage compared to some lefts, making it slightly more forgiving on the reef. However, this spot is still primarily suited for experienced surfers looking for a good challenge.
The waves here usually break right, and they perform best with a south to southwest swell. This spot can handle swell sizes of around 4 feet (about 1.2 meters), but surfers need to be ready for some serious air drops and a square-looking barrel. You can expect an increase in speed leading to a sudden close-out section at the end, so be prepared to make that drop! For the best results, it's advised to hit the spot during low or mid tide, especially with a northwesterly wind blowing in.
Many experienced natural footers come to Apocalypse to test their skills, especially if they're not keen on getting out-run at One Palm. Consistency is often a plus here, but it definitely comes with its own set of challenges. This wave isn’t for everyone, so make sure you’re ready for a workout if you decide to take on Apocalypse!
