Illusions is a surf spot located near Sabini Point, often under the radar for many surfers. It’s not a crowded place, so if you find it, you might have some waves to yourself. The setting is laid-back, making it a good option if you’re looking for something different. The waves here can be fun if the conditions align right.
The surf here offers some decent right peelers that break over live coral. For the best ride, you’re going to want a south swell, ideally around 4 ft (1.2 meters), as that’s when the waves really start to line up nicely. It works best during mid to high tides, and if the wind is coming from the west, it creates cleaner waves. However, any southeast wind can really mess things up, leading to choppy conditions. This spot is best suited for intermediate surfers due to the shallow and fast nature of the break.
Only a few surfers find their way to Illusions, which can make it a nice escape from the busier spots. With the right conditions, it can provide a fun session, but be prepared to deal with the occasional chop if the winds aren’t favorable. So, check the swell and wind direction before heading out!
