Surf: Avalanche, a outside-sandbar/reef spot off Yaquina Head, works at 12ft-plus and surfing it requires a dangerous jump off the cape — a very treacherous entry not to be attempted without local guidance. This outside sandbar seems to have been less affected by the El Niño storms, and is still good on a big WNW or W swell, but rocks can pop up anywhere on the journey. Environment: Experts only.
