Bank Vaults surf guide

Bank Vaults is a surf spot located at Pulau Masokut, known for its challenging right-handers. This spot is not for the faint-hearted; it's where real chargers come to test their skills. The waves can be pretty intense, especially when the swell hits the double overhead mark (around 6 meters). It’s a place that demands respect from those who venture out.

The waves here can seriously surprise you. They break over live coral and are best with a south-west swell direction, but south and west swells also work. The spot handles swell sizes starting from 3 feet (about 1 meter) and gets really good with bigger swells. While it can appear friendly from the channel, the speed and shifting sections are deceptive. The best time to surf is when the wind is coming from the north, and it doesn't matter much if the tide is low, mid, or high. Just remember, this place is meant for experts—intermediates should head to Nipussi if they’re looking for something a bit more manageable.

Although there’s a left around the other side of the tip, it tends to be more dangerous without the rewards that the right offers. Be prepared for a strong lineup, and expect to deal with the punch of the inside reef, especially when those big sets come through. This spot is not for everyone, but for skilled surfers, it can be an exhilarating experience.
