Biologia Surf Forecast Guide

Overview

Biologia is a jetty break just north of the city's port, right beside the consistent peaks of Playa Grande. The main wave is a left that peels off the tip of the northern jetty, while rights run back toward the rocks. Depending on swell direction, you can also pick up a right off the end that spills into the next bay. Everything breaks over sand, and a regular current alongside the northern jetty carries you out to the line-up.

When It Works

The break draws swell from northeast through east-southeast to south, with northeast (NE) the best match; the left in particular comes alive on a NE swell. It's usable from 0.3 m / 1 ft to 1.8 m / 6 ft and is moderately consistent, so you'll find rideable days without it being on all the time. A bigger east swell steps things up and leaves it to the chargers.

Wind and Tide

Look for west (W) offshore wind, and the frequent W/NW winds through summer tend to keep it clean. It works on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call, and it can get really hollow on the lower tides.

Local Tips

Biologia suits intermediate surfers. Expect a very busy lineup when it's working, especially on smaller days; it takes a bigger east swell to thin the crowd out.

Access

You'll find restrooms, showers, and a lifeguard on hand, plus a surf school and surf shop nearby. Parking is easy, with a car park offering free parking alongside paid and roadside options.
