Blue Holes surf guide

Blue Holes is a surf spot located in Kalbarri, right at the mouth of the Murchison River. It’s become a go-to destination for surfers looking for a mix of fun waves and a laid-back vibe. While it draws a crowd, it’s generally not as hectic as some other spots around the area. The setting is pretty nice, and you can expect an enjoyable day in the water when conditions align.

This spot is best with swells coming from the south or west, and it handles sizes around 2ft (approximately 0.6 meters). The waves tend to break over an uneven reef, producing mainly right-handers and the occasional left. The conditions are usually more favorable on low to mid tide, so keep that in mind. If the wind’s coming from the east, you’ll find the waves are more likely to be clean and fun. Intermediate surfers will find it manageable, but it's still got enough power to give you a thrill.

If the surf is pumping, be prepared for locals to be out in force, so it’s a good idea to respect the lineup and follow the local etiquette. If it feels crowded or you're looking for a change of pace, consider heading back up the river mouth for some more laid-back beach or reef peaks.
