Overview
Boat Harbour is a sketchy, barrelling right-hander that breaks over a shallow rock ledge. It only shows rarely, but when it does it throws a square-floored barrel that demands an air-drop entry, which makes it a favourite with bodyboarders.
When It Works
The reef draws swell from northeast to east (NE-E), with northeast (NE) the best match. It works from 0.9 m / 3 ft to 3 m / 10 ft. Conditions can be inconsistent and it needs the right setup to come to life, but when everything lines up the quality is good.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind. The reef breaks on mid and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This is an expert-only wave. It breaks super-shallow over the rock shelf and tests your ability to air-drop straight into the barrel. Expect a moderately busy lineup when it's on.
Access
There's a car park with free parking, plus roadside parking. Getting out to the lineup means jumping off the shelf near the tip, so watch for boats in the channel and the sharp rocks on the way in.
