Bude - Crooklets is a popular surf spot located in a lively town setting. The beach is known for its accessibility and can get busy, especially on good days. It’s a nice place for surfers of all levels, but you might find that it can get a bit crowded during peak times. The beach itself is sandy, and while it offers some good rides, there are other factors you might want to keep in mind when planning your session.
The waves here generally work best with a southwest swell, but you can also catch some fun rides from northwest swells. It handles swell sizes starting from about 1ft (0.3 meters), so you can usually find something to ride. The break varies between a beach break and some uneven reef sections, offering both left and right waves. The shorebreak can be steep at times, which could lead to some challenging conditions, especially for less experienced surfers. Low, mid, and high tides all offer different experiences, and conditions can change quickly from one to the next, so keep an eye on that.
At high tide, beware of backwash and rocky areas that can make things tricky, especially if you're navigating near Tower Rock where you might find a deceptive left. If you’re looking for a quieter spot, walking north can be worth your while. Parking is pretty straightforward, with pay parking available behind the beach next to the skatepark. Just keep in mind that it can fill up quickly on busy days.
