Bude Crooklets surf guide

Bude Crooklets is one of the two main beaches in the seaside town of Bude, located on the north coast of Cornwall, UK. It’s a popular spot for surfers, especially during the summer when crowds gather. The beach isn’t huge, and it can get pretty busy, but it offers decent waves for all skill levels. The layout features both sand and rocky areas, so keep an eye out as you surf.

The surf here is generally pretty fun, especially when it catches a clean swell. It can handle swell sizes from around 2ft to 6ft (about 0.6m to 1.8m) and works best with west or west-southwest swells. You'll find both right and left waves, with rights more common on the northern end and lefts towards the southern end of the beach. It works on all tides, but it’s worth noting that the high tide can shrink the beach and make access a bit tricky. The preferred wind directions are east-northeast and east, which help keep the waves glassy. The mix of sand and some rock patches adds to the fun, but be cautious of the rocks, especially when the swell picks up.

Access to the beach is convenient with a large car park located on the cliff top just back from the beach. Despite its popularity, the local vibe is mainly tolerant, but expect to share the lineup with a large local crew, particularly during peak times. Crooklets is a year-round spot, but the best times to hit it are from September through November, making autumn the prime season for surf here. Whether you're a beginner or intermediate surfer, you can ride everything from shortboards to longboards and even bodyboard if that's your thing.
