Calang Reefs is a surf spot located in a scenic area that offers a variety of wave setups. It's known for its uneven reef and sandy sections, making it suitable for different surfers at various tide heights. The surrounding landscape adds to the vibe of the place, giving you a mix of natural beauty and surf potential.
The best waves here come from a south-west swell direction, but you can also catch rides with swells coming from the south and west. It handles swell sizes starting at 2 feet (about 0.6 meters) and features both left and right breaking waves. The spot usually works best during low, mid, or high tide, but keep in mind that this is more suited for expert surfers due to the nature of the breaks.
When you’re out there, the preferable wind usually comes from the east. Before you hit Calang, it's worth checking out some of the assorted reef breaks about 10 km (6 miles) north. That's the area where you might find some decent rides before you reach this spot. After Calang, the shoreline transitions into a straight sandy beach, which is also worth exploring for other potential surf spots.
