Clarence River surf guide
Surf: Clarence River is usually a rivermouth right, but shifting bars and swell directions can bring peaks to the shingle strand. It works on all tides in medium sized SE-S swells.
Directions: Clarence is located at the mouth of the Clarence River, north of Kaikoura. From Kaikoura Drive north on State Highway 1 for about 20mins. Just before the Clarence River there are some gravel/sand forestry tracks on the east side of the road which you will need to follow out to the river mouth. There may be a short walk involved. Or you can make your way down the river bed.
Environment: Okiwi or Sandy Bay is one of the few beachbreaks in the area. It usually works on lower tides with a S swell and is offshore when the NE wind is blowing onshore everywhere else.
