Cullen is a beach spot located on the Scottish coast, easily visible from the A90. It's a great place to hit the waves, providing access to various surf options that cater to different skills and preferences. This spot is best appreciated by surfers looking for a relaxed vibe without too much fuss, making it a decent choice for a range of surfing levels. Parking is available in town, which is handy for getting to the water quickly.
The surf here is mainly a fast beachbreak with A-frame peaks that work well across all tides—low, mid, and high. The optimal swell direction is from the north, but you’ll also find decent waves when the swell comes from the northwest or east. It handles swell sizes around 2 ft (0.6 m) and breaks over uneven reef and sand. You can expect both left and right waves, making it a versatile spot. For the best conditions, a south wind is preferable.
Aside from the main beachbreak, there are a couple of variable reefs near the rocks known as the 3 Kings, and you'll find a solid right break off the harbour wall. There's also a left reef wave to the west in Smugglers Cove, so there's a bit of variety depending on what you're after. Just be aware of the rocks and currents in the area as you surf.
