Despretes is a surf spot that offers a decent option for surfers looking to catch some waves. It's located near a beautiful lagoon which can be accessed through a reef pass. This spot is a good choice when other locations, like Skull Island, are kind of flat. The vibes here are chill, making it a nice place to hang out and surf.
The waves at Despretes can work well with swells coming from the SouthEast and SouthWest. It handles swell sizes starting at about 2ft (0.6 meters). The peaky right-hand breaks are pretty close to shore, making the take-off easy and allowing for some nice barrels as you ride down the line. Ideal conditions happen when the wind is coming from the NorthEast. Surfers can enjoy this spot during low, mid, or even high tide, but it’s best suited for those with intermediate skills.
Aside from the surfing, it’s also a great place to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The reef offers a unique underwater landscape, adding to the experience of surfing here. Just keep in mind, it’s mostly a spot for those who are already comfortable on a board, so if you're still learning, you might want to check out some easier waves first.
