Dunes Cove is a surf spot located right in front of the Dunes Country Club in Myrtle Beach. It’s not super crowded, making it a decent place to hit the waves without dealing with a ton of other surfers around. The surrounding area has exclusive residential streets, and there's no legal parking, so expect to walk about a mile to get there.
The surf here can be quite interesting, breaking over sandy bottoms with both lefts and rights. It prefers swells from the east and south, handling sizes from about 2 feet (0.6 meters) up. The waves can punch you right in, with a hollow feel and a nice top-to-bottom action. The best times to catch these waves are during low to mid tide, and it works well with northwest winds.
Dunes Cove also has a rivermouth setup, which helps create longer rides, especially on southeast swells. While the surf can be fun, don’t expect it to be perfect every day; just keep an eye on the conditions and enjoy what’s there. Overall, it’s a place where you can find some decent waves if you don’t mind the hike and are willing to share the water with some fish!
