El Alto surf guide

El Alto is a surf spot located in a less visible area, making it somewhat hidden from the main roads. It's known for handling solid NW swells, which really gets the waves going. This spot can get quite a bit of action when the conditions are right, so it's important to be aware that it may be a bit inconsistent at times and can also get crowded.

The waves here are best when the swell comes from the Northwest, but it can also work with West and North swells. El Alto handles swells starting at around 3ft (0.9m) and can definitely pump out some good walls. With steep waves and some bowl sections, it can offer long rides, especially when the swell is bigger. The preferred wind direction is from the South, and the best tides to catch some good waves are at low to mid tide. This spot is more suited for confident intermediates, so if you’ve been surfing for a while and are looking for a challenge, El Alto has got you covered.

The break consists of boulders and sand, and with its right-hand waves, there’s plenty of room to carve and enjoy the ride. Just keep in mind that while the spot can produce decent quality waves, it may not be as consistent as others in the area. Always good to check the conditions before heading out!
