El Confital is located in one of the most beautiful areas of Gran Canaria. It’s known as a favorite spot for surfers, particularly for its rights. While localism is present, it has eased over the years, making it a bit more welcoming for newcomers. This spot is also part of the WQS circuit, so it’s got some recognition in the surfing community.
The surf here is pretty good, especially when the swell comes from the Northwest. It handles swell sizes up to about 4 feet (1.2 meters), and you can expect to find some wedging barrels and fast walls. The waves break over an uneven reef, which creates some challenging conditions, so it's best for intermediate surfers. The ideal wind direction is from the east, and the best tide to hit these waves is mid to high. If you’re looking for a solid right, El Confital has got you covered.
This area has recently been restored, but there are ongoing concerns about urban development creeping in. Be aware of the environment while you’re enjoying the surf. It’s a stunning place to ride some waves, but let’s keep it that way!
