Overview
El Muelle, also known as Harbour Wall, is a left-hand point breaking over an uneven reef, with fast barrel sections running down towards the harbour wall. Restaurants and cafes overlook the break.
When It Works
The point draws swell from west through north to northeast (W-N-NE) and comes into its own on a big northwest (NW) swell. It takes a solid swell to get going, working from 1.8 m / 6 ft to 5.5 m / 18 ft.
Wind and Tide
A southwest (SW) wind blows offshore here. The wave can break through most of the tide, with a rising tide generally the better call — but take care around high tide, when the reef sits shallower and the spot becomes more dangerous.
Local Tips
Save this one for expert surfers. The take-offs are critical and both the reef and the line-up are uneven, so it's not a wave to learn on.
Access
The Ineika surf school overlooks the break, and there's free roadside parking.
