El Muro is located on the south side of the peninsula and is known for its long righthand point break. The spot features three sections: the bigger, faster walls at Cabañas, the shallow midsection of El Muro, and the easier inside at Rocas. Each section does have some shallow rocks, so watch your step. In the summer, the beach tends to get crowded and isn't as clean, with hotels lining the point.
The surf here can be decent, especially when the swell direction is from the west, but it can also handle swells coming from the south. Ideal swell sizes are around 2 feet (0.6 meters), making it great for intermediate surfers. The waves break over uneven reef and offer right-hand waves that can be fun. For the best experience, it’s recommended to surf on a low to mid tide. NorthEast winds are preferable, which can help shape the waves nicely.
While El Muro can get crowded, it scores around a 6 for both crowds and consistency, but keep in mind that both scores might drop during the summer months. If you're planning to hit the waves here, be prepared for a few rocky surprises and a lively atmosphere.
