Las Tacas surf guide

Las Tacas is a northwest-facing beachbreak located in a relatively uncrowded area. This beach spot is great for surfers looking for a more laid-back vibe. Since it often sees fewer people, it can provide a good opportunity to catch some waves without the usual crowd hassles. The surrounding environment is fairly smooth, making it a comfortable place to hang out and ride some surf.

The waves here mainly break over sand and are suitable for both left and right rides. You'll find that Las Tacas handles swell sizes starting at about 1ft (0.3m). The optimal swell direction is from the west, but it also picks up swells from the southwest and northwest. For the best results, the preferable wind direction is southeast. The beachworks well at various tide heights—low, mid, or high—and is beginner-friendly, making it a good spot for those just starting out in surfing.

Even though the waves can sometimes close out, especially in front of the nearby hotel, there are still opportunities for a decent session on the right day. So if you’re looking for a chill, less crowded place to practice your skills, Las Tacas might just be the spot for you.
