Overview
False Pass is a left-hand reef wave that breaks over live coral. It is a dedicated reef setup, so the whole ride runs left off the shelf.
When It Works
The break draws swell from south through southwest (S-SW), and a southwest (SW) swell lines it up best. It is usable from 1.2 m / 4 ft to 3.7 m / 12 ft, giving it a solid working range once there is size in the water. Consistency is moderate, so you will find worthwhile windows rather than surf every day.
Wind and Tide
Look for a northeast (NE) offshore wind to clean up the face. The reef works on low and mid tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
Expect a quiet lineup, so you should have plenty of room to pick off waves.
Access
The break sits around 3 km offshore and is reachable by boat only, so plan the session around a boat rather than a paddle-out.
