First Parking Lot is a surf spot located off State Road 292. It’s the first parking lot you hit after you turn off the bridge, right across from Chad's Boarding House. This spot is situated in the Gulf and is known for its big-wave conditions. It's not a destination spot where surfers flock specifically, as it’s pretty average overall.
When it comes to surfing, First Parking Lot handles swells from 1.8 to 2.4 meters (6 to 8 feet). The swell typically comes from the East, Southeast, or South, making it a decent choice when those directions are on the rise. The waves tend to be offshore, and the best paddling conditions are on smaller days. The bottom is sandy, so it’s not too harsh on falls, but getting out to the outside can be a bit of a challenge when the surf is up. This spot works best at low to mid tide and can cater to all levels from beginners to experts.
Access is straightforward with parking right at the lot and boardwalks leading to the beach. There are usually no crowds to contend with, giving you some space to catch waves. The local vibe is pretty chill as well, with no significant scene to worry about. If you’re looking for a quiet place to surf when the conditions align, First Parking Lot could be an option.
