G-Land surf guide

G-Land, also known as Grajagan, is a world-renowned surf spot located on the eastern side of Java in Indonesia. This location is famous among surfers for its powerful waves and beautiful scenery. The beach is surrounded by lush tropical jungle, offering a stunning backdrop for those looking to ride some serious swells. When you arrive, you’ll see the vibe is laid-back, making it a great place to connect with fellow surfers and share tips. Expect to find a mix of conditions and crowds, especially when the surf camps are in full swing.

The waves at G-Land are mainly reef breaks that favor expert surfers. The optimal swell direction comes from the southwest, with good surf conditions also available when swells come from the south and west. G-Land can handle swell sizes starting from 2 feet (0.6 meters) and can go up to triple overhead on bigger days. Money Trees is the standout spot, offering perfect peeling barrels that can stretch for 200 meters. The rides here can vary based on tide and swell direction, so timing and positioning are key. Other areas like Kong's and Speed Reef offer different challenges, with Speedies being particularly intense and requiring precise skill to navigate its fast and steep drops.

For the best experience, aim for the right tide heights—low, mid, and high can all work depending on the wave. East winds are preferable, keeping the surf clean and manageable. While it’s a spot for advanced surfers, G-Land has some unpredictability, like shallow reef sections at low tide that may require helmets. Getting in tactically and respecting the lineup is important, as the waves can pack a punch and catch you off guard if you're not ready.
