Haqal is located on Masirah's SE-facing coast, known for its potential righthand points. This spot tends to catch more size in comparison to the Jazirah area, usually being about twice the wave height. However, be warned that the conditions can get blown out after 10 am, so an early start is your best bet to catch some decent waves.
This spot really shines with a south-west swell, but it also handles southeast and southwest swells pretty well. The waves here can drop to around 2ft (about 0.6 meters) and break over an uneven reef, which adds a bit of challenge. If you’ve got an intermediate skill level, accessing those juicy right-handers is totally doable, especially at mid to high tide. Just keep an eye on the wind; it’s best when it’s blowing from the west.
While you’re out there, remember that Haqal can get pretty crowded, especially during the prime hours. So be prepared for some competition in the lineup, but it’s generally a chill vibe if everyone respects each other. Enjoy your time at Haqal, but remember that it's not the most consistent spot, so be ready for some below-average days too!
