Ra's Al Ya is a surf spot located on the east coast of Masirah Island, known for its rights tucked in behind the headland. This spot can handle strong winds, making it a decent choice when conditions aren’t great elsewhere. However, be aware that the waves can often feel a bit fat and mushy, especially when compared to some of the more intense breaks in the area.
The best swell directions here are Southeast and Southwest, with the optimal size being around 2 feet (0.6 meters). The waves usually break over an uneven reef, creating a point break that peels to the right. Ideal wind directions come from the west, and the spot can work at low, mid, or high tide. It's more suited for intermediate surfers who are looking for a chill session rather than big, powerful waves.
There are multiple righthand points along the coast, but the waves in the Jazirah area tend to be about half the size of the more southeast-facing breaks. If you're searching for consistent conditions, pay attention to the swell size and direction to get the best out of Ra's Al Ya.
