Ikuragahama surf guide

Ikuragahama is a beach located along the coast on the way to Miyazaki, the largest city in the Prefecture. It's known for its fun, albeit unchallenging beachbreak, making it a suitable spot for surfers of all levels. With a population of about 300,000, Miyazaki is close by, so you can easily swing by after your surf session. The beach is generally laid-back, making it a nice place to hang out and catch some waves.

This spot works best with Southeast swells, but you'll also find it handling East and South swells. The waves break over sand, which is friendly for beginners. The ideal swell size is around 1ft (0.3m), making it a great place for newbies to get their feet wet. The waves typically offer left and right directions, giving surfers a bit of choice. When it comes to wind conditions, Northwest winds are preferable. You can surf at all tide heights, whether low, mid, or high, which adds flexibility to your session.

While you're out here, keep an eye out for the odd rock near the rivermouth, especially where the best waves tend to form. If you’re looking for other spots, there are plenty of similar breaks along the coast, like Caguchihama, Hitotsuse, and Isekagaku, to name a few. Each place has its own vibe, so it’s worth checking them out if you want to explore more of the area.
