Intendencia is a surf spot that serves up some serious challenges. Known for its heavy lefts, the wave demands perfect conditions to be rideable. It can really pack a punch, especially when a solid swell rolls in, but good days are less frequent, and it's usually more intense than it appears from a distance.
The optimal swell direction here is south, but it can also handle swells from the south-west. Intendencia works best with swell sizes around 3ft (about 0.9 meters), and breaks over an uneven reef. When the tide is high, the waves open up a bit, but even then, the take-off can be tough, often going beyond vertical. This spot is really for expert surfers as it tends to get square and slabby, making it often unmakeable for anyone not at the top of their game.
It’s good to note that the preferred wind direction is from the east, which can help clean up the waves when conditions align. If you're looking to catch some serious waves, make sure you're prepared for the intensity of Intendencia, and don't forget that it’s always bigger and heavier than it looks!
