More about K-38 surfspot

General: Located just south of Rosarito, K-38 is a classic Baja Norte setup and one of the first that people surf when they start visiting California's southern neighbor. A moderately powerful, bowly right point breaking over a rocky reef, K-38 isn't epic, but its reliably fun and relatively long, making it a fun day-trip from San Diego and an obvious stop during road trips to points further south. Tides: Mid to low. Size: Head-high to double overhead. Wind: NE, E Swell: S, SW, W, WNW Bottom: Rocky reef. Paddling: Easy paddle out and minimal current unless swell is macking. Spot Rating: Fun, user-friendly, reliable reef/point.

User-friendly wave appropriate for proficient surfers.

Park at hotel or pay security guard to watch your car.

West swells are possible year round, but south swells are best. Summer, Autumn, and winter all have consistently good conditions.

Crowd Factor: A staple of the Baja Norte surf scene, with crowds to reflect that. Local Vibe: A few grumpy American expats, but it's hard to take them seriously.

Pretty clean, unless there's a sewage spill.

Rocks, urchins, petty theft.
