La Courance is a small beach that attracts surfers, bodyboarders, and skimboarders alike. This spot is known for its consistent but often small shorebreaks. The sandy beach offers a comfortable area to relax when you’re not in the water. There’s also a nice peak that can form near the point, which can be worth checking out, especially when the conditions align.
The surf at La Courance works best with a southwest swell, making it ideal for waves coming from that direction. It can also handle swell sizes starting from around 1ft (0.3m) up to larger sizes. The waves typically break over sand, providing a friendly environment for surfers. You’ll find both left and right waves here, with preferable conditions happening at low to mid tide. This spot is well-suited for intermediate surfers looking for a fun session.
When planning your visit, keep in mind that the best wind direction is from the north. Besides the waves, the area has some scattered rocks, but for the most part, you’ll be riding on soft sand. If you’re around at high tide, you might want to check out the soft righthanders at Grand Traict to the north for a change of pace.
