La Pared surf guide

La Pared is a surf spot located right in Luquillo, known for its wide, sandy beach. There's a breakwall in front of the road, which gives it some protection. While it's generally considered an average beach break, it's a decent place for beginners to learn. On rare occasions, when conditions are just right a few times a year, the waves can get quite hollow and powerful.

The waves here can range from chest high (about 1 meter) to overhead (around 2.5 meters) depending on the swell. It handles swell from the North, North Northwest, North East, and North Northeast, and can take on sizes from 3 feet (0.9 meters) to 8 feet (2.4 meters). The beach offers both right and left breaks over sand bottom, which keeps things fun for different skill levels. The preferred wind directions are from the South, South Southeast, South Southwest, and West Southwest, and the best tides to catch waves are from low to mid and mid to high. Beginners and intermediates will find it accessible, but more advanced surfers might want to check elsewhere unless the conditions are exceptional.

Access to the spot is easy—just park right on the street above the wave. You might find that the crowd isn’t too packed, as it’s pretty spread out. The local vibe is fairly mellow, making it a chill spot to enjoy your session. Late summer and fall are prime times for tropical cyclone swells, while you'll see more consistent conditions from late fall through early spring.
