Surf: Mimiwhangata Bay also requires payment to cross private farm land to access Okupe beach. Multiple peaks materialise in any E swell and preferably any W wind. Strong, organised fun for all abilities. Directions: Mimiwhangata Bay is located south of Helena Bay on the east coast, north of Whangarei. From Whangarei, head north on Western Hills Drive, State Highway 1. Turn right onto Russell Road, then right onto Pigs Head Road. Turn left onto Kaiikanui Road. Turn right onto Mimiwhangata Road and out to Okupe beach. From here its a walk, you must ask permission and pay to cross farm land to access the beach. Environment: Walk south for more uncrowded quality at Paraparea. Nice campsite on the westside beach.
