North End is a long stretch of beach located north of the main Virginia Beach area. It’s a quieter spot compared to the more active breaks to the south, making it ideal for those looking to escape the crowds. The area is mostly residential, giving it a chill vibe where surfers can enjoy some time in the water without feeling rushed.
The surf here is usually smaller, with optimal conditions for waves around 2ft (about 0.6 meters). While it can be a bit weak during smaller swells, it tends to pick up with low tide and bigger swells. The waves break over sand, creating beach breaks that offer left and right directions. For the best experience, try to catch it when the wind is coming from the southwest, particularly at low or mid tide.
Keep in mind that summer surfing brings parking restrictions in the area, so plan accordingly if you're heading out during that time. If you're looking to extend your stay, the adjacent First Landing State Park has good camping options right near the beach, making it a convenient place to hang out after hitting the surf.
