Surf: Closer to Auckland on the east coast, breaks get smaller, softer and only NE swell will filter through the offshore islands. Orewa Bar breaks either side of the estuary mouth providing long soft breakers perfect for longboarders and SUPers, while Orewa Beach is great for learners with constant reforms. Directions: From Auckland head north on the Auckland Northern Motorway State Highway 1. Turn right onto the Hibiscus Coast Highway and continue into Orewa. Find a park near the estuary mouth at the southern end of the beach. Environment: Never gets overhead but can get overcrowded in summer
