Outside Ekas is a surf spot located on the island of Sumbawa, Indonesia. It's known for its powerful waves and beautiful scenery, situated below steep cliffs at the eastern headland. This spot consistently attracts more swell than Inside Ekas. The area is part of the Bali-Sumbawa charter route, which means it can get pretty crowded, especially with local boat traffic from places like Awang and Kuta.
The surf here is mainly a chaotic left that works best with a southwest swell. It can handle swell sizes starting from about 3 feet (0.9 meters) and gets more intense as conditions pick up. The waves break over live coral and remain quite fast, offering long rides for the more advanced surfers, though intermediate surfers can also have fun here. Expect strong currents, and be aware that the hold-downs can be lengthy. The best wind for this spot comes from the east, and it can work well during low, mid, and high tides.
Since Outside Ekas is known for its powerful waves, it’s a good idea to be cautious, especially if you’re not an advanced surfer. The sea life around can also add some excitement to your session. Be prepared for a bit of a challenge when you're out in the water here.
