Surf: Quality, but fickle, lefthand boulder reef at the west end of West Strand, needs exact swell direction to work. Shallow and rocky so itβs mid/high tide only.
Environment: Considered one of the best waves in N. Ireland, crowded when on.
Surf: General: A series of shifty sand bank in the area of Portrush town. Can be hit or miss. Hard to know where to go as conditions change rapidly with tide and rips. Can get very good but also be very frustrating.
Tides: Different peaks break on different tides.
Size: Waist-high to overhead.
Wind: S-E
Swell: W-N
Bottom: Sand.
Paddling: A range depending on currents.
Spot Rating: Has magic moments and even days. But can be frustratingly shifty and fickle.
Access: Parking and access are easy.
Crowds: Crowd Factor: The conditions change so much there is not much chance for a crowd to gather.
Local Vibe: Friendly.
Environment: Very clean.
Hazards: Rips especially as it gets bigger. Lifeguard during summer season. Never surf alone.
Season: Winter months are best for more advanced surfers. Summer is better for beginners.
