Punta Banco surf guide

Punta Banco is located at the end of the road and is known among surfers for its beachbreak peaks and various reefbreaks. The area attracts plenty of swell, making it a decent spot to catch some waves. It can be a fun place for surfers of different abilities, especially when the conditions are smaller. However, it can also handle some decent size, which adds to its versatility.

The optimal swell direction here is southwest, but it also picks up swells from the south and west. Punta Banco can handle swell sizes starting at about 2 feet (0.6 meters) and it breaks over uneven reef and sand, offering both left and right waves. For the best experience, aim for northeast winds and consider surfing during low, mid, or high tide as it performs well across different tide heights. It's a place better suited for intermediate surfers, given the nature of the breaks and reef formations.

In recent years, several lodges have popped up around the area, which could lead to a bit of a crowd, especially when other spots are flat. If you're planning to surf here, keep in mind that it might be busier than you’d expect, but it can still provide some enjoyable sessions.
