Backwash is located in the beautiful Golfo Dulce and is known as the middle cove in the area. It's generally a bit smaller than the outer point but still attracts a good number of surfers. The wave here tends to have hollow and fast sections, making it a popular choice, especially during low to mid tide. It can get pretty crowded these days, so be prepared to share the waves.
This spot works best with a south swell and can handle swell sizes starting from around 2 feet (0.6 meters). The waves break over an uneven reef, which can create some interesting and challenging conditions. Most of the waves at Backwash are right-handers, so keep that in mind when you're paddling out. The ideal wind direction is from the northwest, and it favors intermediate surfers looking for some fun without being too overwhelming.
The rocky and shallow environment can be a bit tricky at low tide, so it's good to be cautious. If you're out there, expect to see a mix of surfers, and don't forget that while you might find the odd left off the reef, right waves are the main attraction here. Happy surfing!
