Punta Dos is a surf spot located in Iquique that caters to experienced surfers. It features a barrelling wave that breaks over an uneven reef, making it a challenging place to ride. The line-up tends to be dominated by bodyboarders, and while it might look like a righthand point setup, don't be fooled—there are lefts available, especially depending on the swell angle. Just a bit further north, you can find more exciting lefts at La Cosa.
This spot works best with a swell direction from the Southwest, although swells from the South and Northwest can also produce rideable waves. Punta Dos can handle swell sizes starting from about 3 feet (1 meter) and up. The waves here are fast and need good timing and skill to tackle, especially as they push forward quickly from the take-off zone. The ideal conditions for surfing include low to mid tide and even high tide. If the wind is blowing from the East, that's when you'll have the best sessions. Keep in mind that this is not for beginners—only experienced surfers should take on the challenge here.
While surfing at Punta Dos, be careful of the dry sucks, boils, and urchins that are part of the landscape. The atmosphere can be intense, so approach with caution and be ready to navigate the tricky reef. Overall, Punta Dos offers a demanding surf experience that’s more suited for those looking to push their limits.
