Rag's Left surf guide

Rag's Left is a surf spot located in a picturesque setting, known for its left-hand reef break. This spot can be a bit tricky, as recent geological shifts have affected how the waves break. While it used to offer more consistent and rideable waves, you’ll now find some challenging boils and shallow coral sections. The wave starts to mellow out after the first few hundred meters, especially as it wraps around Pitojetsabeu Island.

The surf here generally prefers a SouthWest swell, and it can handle sizes up to about 2 meters (6 ft). The final 100 meters of the wave is usually the most approachable, making it a decent spot if you’re looking to catch a ride after navigating the more difficult initial sections. Expert surfers will need to be ready for an air-drop and might want to bring a pintail board to help manage the bigger days. Rag's Left isn't as consistent as nearby Thunders, and the ideal wind for this spot is from the SouthEast, so keep that in mind when planning your session. It's also worth noting that you can surf here at low, mid, or high tide, giving some flexibility in your outing.

If you're hitting Rag's Left, be prepared for a mix of good and tough conditions. It might not be a perfect spot every day, but the challenges can reward those who know how to handle them. Just remember to respect the reef and the wave so you can enjoy what Rag's Left has to offer.
