Thunders surf guide
Surf: This left rumbles in from deep water exudes more power and heavy water characteristics than most Mentawai spots. Thick peaks pop up in a range of spots, requiring a bigger board to negotiate the long drop leading to either shoulder hook or inside drainer barrel sections. Refracts heavily, focusing powerful whitewash on anyone caught inside, a situation guaranteed for most surfers. Works from tiny to huge and speed barrel sections can appear up the reef in a moderate S swell, but this is the go-to spot when it’s flat elsewhere. Thunders handles crowds, but not vice-versa, as only the dialled in chargers will suss the shifting line-up. Bonus is it’s nice and deep at all tides and there’s a beautiful beach to wander along and see the wave from the front.
