The waves at Rife can be decent for intermediate surfers. The optimal swell direction is from the southwest, which makes for some enjoyable rides on good days. Swells usually handle sizes around 2 feet (about 0.6 meters) and break over an uneven reef. You can catch both left and right-breaking waves, so there’s a bit of variety. It tends to work best during low, mid, and high tide, with a preferable wind coming from the east.

While the surf might not blow you away, it’s also a nice spot to experiment with kiting, especially since the bay’s waters are usually pretty smooth.
