San Blas surf guide

San Blas is located about 80 miles north of Vallarta, where the coastline shifts to catch some nice swell during the spring and summer months. This area is known for its various surf spots, with Stoner's Point being a well-known gem just south of the town. It's a mellow, cobblestone righthand pointbreak that many surfers enjoy. Besides Stoner's Point, there’s also Santa Cruz on the opposite side of the bay, which offers a lefthand point. In general, if you’re around San Blas, you’ll find yourself surrounded by a lot of beachbreak options.

The surf here can range from waist high to double overhead (about 1 to 2.5 meters). San Blas is great for catching waves from different swell directions including South, SouthWest, and WestSouthWest, and it handles swell sizes typically between 3ft to 8ft (approximately 1 to 2.5 meters). The waves break over sand, providing both lefts and rights. You can surf at all tides, but low to mid and mid to high tides work best for various spots. With manageable paddling, it caters to all skill levels from beginner to expert, making it accessible for most surfers. The preferred wind directions here are North, NorthNorthEast, and East, which can really make your session enjoyable.

Access to the beach breaks is pretty easy, and while the crowd can get a bit busy at the main spots, the overall vibe is laid-back and friendly. You can expect a clean environment most of the time, but after heavy rains, it may not be as fresh. Generally, the surf season runs from March to October, so plan your trip accordingly. Most surfers bring shortboards, fishes, funboards, or longboards, depending on their style and the conditions.
