Stoner's Point surf guide

Stoner’s Point is a well-known surf spot located just after the resort town of San Blas. It’s the first classic point break that surfers encounter in the area. This righthander can handle various swell sizes, making it a reliable spot regardless of the conditions. While it does deliver more power and hollowness compared to some other nearby breaks, getting there is not the easiest, so be prepared for a bit of a trek.

The optimal swell direction for Stoner’s Point is from the Southwest, but it can also work with swells coming from the South and Northwest. When the swell is around 2ft (0.6 meters), this break is known to really come alive. The waves break over a mix of uneven reef and sand, creating a mix of point and reef waves. It generally breaks right, so keep that in mind when you're paddling out. For the best ride, the preferred wind direction is from the Northeast, and it works best during low to mid tides. Bear in mind that this spot is better suited for expert surfers due to its setup and conditions.

Stoner’s Point has a bit of history in the surf community, being famously ridden by Jeff Hakman and Jock Sutherland in the film "Cosmic Children". To get there, you can paddle across the rivermouth from Plays Borrego, then either walk or use a 4x4 from Las Islitas. It’s a scenic spot, but the approach can test your patience, so plan your trip accordingly.
