Sandbar is a surf spot located near a rivermouth south of a camp. It offers a decent variety for surfers with a unique shape that allows for rides of around 200-400 meters depending on the swell direction. While itβs fairly consistent, keep in mind that it can be shadowed at times by Coiba Island.
The best swell direction here is from the SouthWest, although it also picks up swells from the South. It handles swell sizes around 3 ft (about 0.9 meters). The wave types you can expect are mainly rivermouth waves, breaking over sand, with options for both left and right rides. For the best experience, aim for low to mid to high tide and check the wind, which is preferable from the North. This spot is great for all levels, especially beginners, thanks to its soft forgiving shoulders and some faster, crumbling sections.
When catching waves, be mindful of the current on the dropping tide, as it can get a bit tricky. Having the surf camp boat around is a good idea for paddling those longer distances back.
