Sennen is a stunning beach located just north of Land’s End and is known as the most westerly beach in Britain. This crescent-shaped stretch of golden sand is a popular spot among surfers, especially during the peak summer months when the conditions can be fun and inviting. The beach is backed by a car park and has plenty of facilities nearby, making it easy to spend a day here.
The surf at Sennen usually breaks over sand and can handle swell sizes from about 2ft (0.6m) to 6ft (1.8m). The optimal swell direction is from the SouthWest, but it can also pick up waves coming from the South and NorthWest. When the conditions are right, surfers can find both left and right waves, with low to mid tides being preferable. It’s a decent spot for surfers of all abilities—beginners can find their feet here, while intermediates and experts can enjoy the fun waves too. The southern end of the beach tends to be more sheltered when the swell gets bigger. Just keep in mind that rip currents can be a hazard when the conditions are strong.
Access is straightforward; there's a car park right by the surf shop at the bottom of the hill. During summer, expect a crazy crowd, but things are more manageable in autumn and winter. The local vibe is generally tolerant, welcoming surfers who show humility and respect. The prime time to hit the waves is from September to November when the banks are typically more groomed, offering a chance for some classic sessions on long walls.
