Shangri-la surf guide

Shangri-la is located on the island of Viligili in the Addu Atoll, home to the new Shangri-la resort. While the resort provides luxury accommodations, access to the nearby surf spots may be limited for non-guests. That said, this area is known for some decent waves, especially when conditions align favorably.

The surf here works best with small, clean south-west (SW) swells, particularly during the southern hemisphere summer. It features a nice right reef break that wraps along the east coast when the swell direction is optimal from the SW or even the east. You can handle swell sizes of about 2ft (0.6m) with ease. The preferred wind direction is from the north-east, and the waves break over dead coral, making it more suitable for experienced surfers.

When it comes to tide heights, you can find good waves at low, mid, and high tides. As this spot is mainly for expert surfers, it's a good idea to be confident in your abilities before paddling out. Overall, if you’re in the area and the conditions are right, Shangri-la can provide a fun session that worth checking out.
